# Steps:

01 - Mix refried beans with taco seasoning in a medium bowl. Spread mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9x13-inch serving dish.
02 - Mash avocados with lime juice, salt, diced red onion, and tomato until combined. Spread this guacamole evenly over the bean layer.
03 - Spread sour cream evenly over the guacamole layer.
04 - Top the sour cream with drained chunky salsa, taking care not to mix the layers.
05 - Evenly distribute shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses over the salsa layer.
06 - Layer sliced black olives over the cheese.
07 - Finish by adding shredded iceberg lettuce followed by chopped green onions.
08 - Cover and refrigerate the layered dish for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld. Serve chilled with tortilla chips.

# Chef’s Tips:

01 -
  • It looks like you spent hours in the kitchen when you actually spent twenty minutes.
  • There's something for everyone—the guacamole lovers, the cheese devotees, the people who mainly came for the chips.
  • You can literally taste each ingredient separately, which somehow makes it taste better than if everything was mixed together.
02 -
  • If you drain your salsa, you're already ahead of ninety percent of people who try to make this—waterlogged dip is a tragedy no layer can save.
  • The lime juice on those avocados is doing double duty, keeping them green and keeping them delicious, so don't skip it or rush it.
03 -
  • Use a shallow dish so people can actually get to all seven layers with their chips instead of having to dig like they're on an archaeological expedition.
  • Keep extra tortilla chips nearby because this dip will disappear faster than you anticipate, and nobody likes being the person at the party eating dip with a spoon.
